Communion Education Program

St. John's makes available a number of options for children preparing for their first Communion.  Some families with younger children prepare in receiving Holy Communion as soon as their children ask for it.  Other families decide at their child's baptism to offer this Means of Grace.  Yet again, other families will request instruction for their children before theFifth Grade, culminating in a review of the meaning of Holy Communion withpastor. The child's reception of Holy Communion for the first time willtake place the following Sunday morning.  Children who have been receiving at other congregations continue to receive Holy Communion when they begin to attend worship here.

The variety of options is good for the life of the Church and helps to meet the needs of a larger congregation.  We all agree that a special teaching experience regarding Holy Communion always should take place as a part of a child's spiritual growth.  Therefore, we offer the 5th grade Holy Communion Education program every year at St. John's. In 2007, the first class will be offered on February 25th; on that day the program will be held for students and parents during the Sunday Church School hour and the 11:00AM worship service, followed by lunch and a lesson with Pastor Ward. Classes will continue during Sunday Church School on March 4th, 11th and 18th. The Communion Breakfast and Blessing will be held on Sunday March 25th.
